October 2007 - Meet with potential investor(s) to front the small budget were the script to be cute to a movie short for the purposes of film festival release as a forerunner to a separate feature length movie project.

November 2006 - Location scouting began for "principle city" location.  The City of Welch, WV, is added to the prospect list of locations for The Crimson Rose and a request letter is forwarded thusly.

December (early) 2006 - Investor(s) agree in principle and the project moves forward.  Trimedia Pictures is notified that the City of Welch, WV, will be pleased to have their town used as the principle location theme for The Crimson Rose.

December (late) 2006 - Elyse Moretti from Pittsburgh, PA area is engaged to co-write The Crimson Rose screenplay into a movie short targeted at 30 to 40 minutes and over the next two weeks she and Roger meet twice including once at the Butler Library to "make it happen" by the start of the new year 2007.

January 2007 - Script completed utilizing college campus facilities at Elyse's college.  Both Crew Call & Casting Call begins.  Decision made to produce the entire picture in West Virginia for a number of reasons, some of which will be disclosed later in the Pictures & More Info section to the right.

February 2007 - Casting Calls and Crew Calls continue while a location for auditions is sought.  Crew interviews begin.

March 2007 (early) - Weirton, WV selected as the location for all auditions since the majority of the movie will be shot around that area.  Location scouting begins for Jason's home, Library, Police Station, and park.  Crew additions include:
Colin Sheehy - camera, casting, grip!
Dejah Harnish - Lead Hair & Make Up, Costume, Set Design,
Script Supervision  and Storyboarding, Administrative Assistant
Christopher Gilgour - Hair & Make Up, Behind the Scenes
         Videography, Set Design

March 2007 (late) - Auditions at the Holiday Inn, Weirton, WV.  Cassandra "Cassie" Mutkus is cast as Elizabeth "Lizzy" Johnson, Peacoe Reilly is cast as Scott Landers.  Still sought are Jason, Chris, and Suzi.  Shoot list work begins as Jason's home location is secured in Weirton, WV.

April 2007 - Initial teaser trailer is posted, casting continues for Jason at the Comfort Inn in Cranberry Twp, PA, and the shoot list nears completion.  Both the park and the theater scenes still need location scouting.  5 May shoot date is cancelled due a production company conflict.

May 2007 - Chris Kirk cast as Jason; John Ivanonkinw cast as Det. Sgt. Wilson.  Script rehearsal goes off as planned and preparations begin for the first shoot.

May 2007 (mid) - And . . . their off!.  Cameras rolled on the 12th with a GREAT production day in Weirton.  The team performed on queue and made for a fun filled and busy day.  A little windy in the afternoon but otherwise absolutely a gorgeous day for production.  By nightfall, our Elizabeth (Cassie Mutkus) had to be blanketed in between scenes during the car wash scene but otherwise was a perfect day for our start.  19th discovered the cast and crew traveling between New Cumberland and Weirton and as one cast member stated "wow, we shot all day and no one said a single line."  How true it was.  Focusing on dreamscapes and Lizzy's finality the day was pretty much vocally silent except for the behind the scenes Lizzy shots.  Two weeks off as preparation and planning continue for the last two shoot weekends.  We welcome her academic field and on the job experience in film and production.  Location scouting continues for the final scene as the month of initiation comes to a close.

June 2007 (early) - Cameras rolled again and the ending scene completed.  WV south location was changed due to complications with securing locations and talent scouting.  Thus, location scouting intensified the second week to make the 9-10 June shoot deadline.  Wheeling was selected as the alternate location as the cast & crew welcomed Amanda Cutone as Suzanne (Suzi) Smith and Josiah Hoffman as Chris Morrison.

With the help of significant state and city officials our final emergency location was scouted, walked through, and arrangements made in four days for a busy two day shoot to cover the final scenes that were originally slated for the southern West Virginia area.  Thus, the final shooting was finished and "The Crimson Rose" is now headed to Post Production turning a production that had started one week late to being ready for post production one week ahead of schedule.

Thanks to all who have helped with field production in allowing us to use your properties and facilities, for food services, and to our remarkable cast and crew who put in extra hours, hard work, and perseverance, to make a dream come true for not just one or two but for all of us.  Moreover, the dream has just gotten started.  Lastly, thanks to all for the fun we've had during this production, and look for some of the antics in the final DVD release that will be released following the judging process.

July to September - Whew!  Post has been challenging but as of this writing nears completion.  From post production equipment failures,  format and configuration complications, and extensive discussions to "find" the right look, it's been an uphill climb all the way.  Registrations were completed for both Tribecca and Sundance.   In addition, there were additional registrations under consideration as the final interviews, "special features" scripts, and interviews, are in progress for the movies public production release.

October 2007 - The film was finally completed and the music scored.  The project was delayed almost 5 weeks from the original release date BUT ended up better than the initial July edits revealed possible.  To date, four film festival deliveries have been made and at least one more is anticipated.  The public release production copy is expected to be ready for release in November or December depending on festival "public showing" rules.  Premier dates in both Weirton and Wheeling are anticipated.

November 2007 - In all there were 7 Film Festival submissions with the first of the 7 reporting back.  Out of over 8500 films being received for consideration by Sundance, The Crimson Rose wasn't one of the mere 200 chosen to be shown.

December 2007 - The production copies come to finalization while the cast and crew get to see the first screening of the Film Festival Version just before Christmas.

January 2008 - The Crimson Rose production copy released complete with Special Features and Chapter Selection!  The Film Festival Final is released consistent with the look of the production version.

March 2008 - The Crimson Rose receives three awards out of 14,000 submissions at the coveted Telly Awards for Excellence in a short of which one award was for cinematography.  More details will be posted shortly.

December 2010 - The Crimson Rose goes online viewing at www.crimsonrosemovie.com and at Vimeo.com

WHY WEST VIRGINA? - Our director was often asked, "why West Virginia?"  His answer was a resounding, "Why NOT West Virginia?   The state is beautiful and so are the people.  Having the highest average elevation of any state east of the Mississippi and we're filming in two cities, one of which is the only city in the nation that extends from one state border to another, let alone the state has many firsts in our nation: the first brick pavement laid in the US on a public street that was paid for by a private citizen, the first state sales tax, the first bareknuckle world heavyweight championship, the first union soldier killed in the Civil War, the first trust in the US, the first rural free mail, the first public school for blacks, the first federal prison for women, the first public spa in the US,  and among gads of other firsts, the first public parking garage in the US.  Moreover, our movie will be shot in two "W" cities in West Virginia (Weirton & Wheeling) both in the northern panhandle area.  Thus, I say, why not West Virginia?"
